The Division of Labour Manitoba 

Manitoba’s Division of Labour oversees and ensures the effective delivery of programs and services relating to: 

  • Workplace safety and health 
  • Employment standards
  • Labour relations
  • Public safety

The Division of Labour oversees various bodies, many of which are responsible for Occupational Safety and Health in the province. These bodies include Workplace Safety and Health (WSH), the Manitoba Labour Board, and the Manitoba Labour Management Review Committee. 

Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) 

Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) ensures safe and healthy workplaces across Manitoba through the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSA) and three associated regulations. The body conducts safety & health investigations and inspections of workplaces with a focus on improving legislative compliance. 

The Manitoba Labour Board 

The Manitoba Labour Board is an autonomous specialist tribunal responsible for the fair and efficient administration and adjudication of responsibilities assigned per the Labour Relations Act. 

The board aims to resolve labour matters fairly and reasonably while respecting the wishes of both labour and management. This includes assisting parties with disputes and processing applications as efficiently as possible. 

The board works in accordance with the following legislation: 

  • The Workplace Safety and Health Act
  • The Pay Equity Act
  • The Essential Services Act
  • The Public Schools Act
  • The Elections Act
  • The Victims’ Bill of Rights
  • The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.

Manitoba Labour Management Review Committee

Manitoba’s Labour Management Review Committee features representatives from both labour and management, allowing for an open discussion about labour and management issues to take place. Its mandate is to promote harmonious labour relations and foster a culture of effective labour management cooperation for the betterment of the economy and well-being of Manitobans.
